December 27, 2024
Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a simple, meaningful word to guide my personal and professional focus. As Executive Director at The Wildwood Senior Living in Joplin, Missouri, the start of a new year always feels like a fresh opportunity. It allows me to reset, refocus, and prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead. This year’s word aligned perfectly with the season I was in, acting as an anchor. It influenced how I led my team, supported families, and cared for residents. It manifested in ways I anticipated and in many unexpected moments. Reflecting on the year, I’m truly amazed at how much my Word of the Year shaped 2024.
My Word of the Year for 2024 was connection. After reviewing our satisfaction surveys, we identified an opportunity to strengthen relationships with residents and employees by prioritizing meaningful connections.
This focus shaped my decisions, relationships, and growth throughout the year. As a result, we’ve seen improvements in employee retention, with new team members expressing a strong sense of community. Similarly, prospective residents touring The Wildwood have shared positive impressions, reinforcing the impact of fostering deeper connections.
The lessons from connection will guide my goals and focus for the year ahead. By building on our successes and addressing areas for growth, we aim to continue enhancing relationships within our community. My Word of the Year for 2025 is elevate—a commitment to raising our standards and creating an even more exceptional experience for everyone we serve.
As 2025 approaches, I’m reflecting on the lessons of 2024 and stepping into a new chapter with my next Word of the Year. I’m excited to see how this word will guide me in leadership, relationships, and personal growth throughout the year. Choosing a Word of the Year isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about being intentional and open to the journey it inspires.
What will your Word of the Year be for 2025? Here’s to a year filled with purpose, growth, and meaningful moments for us all.
We take great pride in improving employee retention and building a strong sense of community among our team members in 2024.
