Finding My Place in Senior Living

As Culinary Director at The Wildwood Senior Living, I approach each day with passion—not just purpose. I face new challenges, hear new stories, and find fresh reasons to feel grateful. I’m excited to share how I arrived in this role, what fuels my dedication, and what a typical day looks like in our community. My work goes beyond preparing meals—it centers on building connections, creating purpose, and making a real difference where it counts.

I chose to work in senior living because the hours offered more balance than restaurant life. However, once I stepped into this role, I knew I had found where I was meant to be. I genuinely enjoy building relationships with the people who enjoy the meals we create.

My background in fine dining prepared me well for this position. Early in my career, I also worked as a waitress. That experience taught me the value of personal connection—something that translates beautifully to senior living.

What I enjoy most about this industry is connecting with residents and working alongside an incredible team. These daily interactions inspire me and remind me why this work matters.

Purpose in Every Plate

Each morning, I start by greeting the residents and my team. Then I head into the kitchen to review the day’s priorities and address any challenges that might affect our workflow. This helps us keep everything running smoothly and ensures we stay focused on delivering high-quality meals.

For anyone considering a culinary career in senior living, my advice is to broaden your skill set. Challenge yourself with new flavor profiles, techniques, and menu styles. Be ready to do a little of everything—from cutting steaks to mixing dressings and preparing desserts.

To me, success means serving great food, creating a happy team, and bringing joy to our residents. It’s about more than just cooking—it’s about connection, care, and community.

A Role That Matters

At day’s end, I take the greatest pride in knowing I’ve contributed something meaningful—whether it’s a favorite dish, a heartfelt conversation, or a comforting moment. Thank you for welcoming me into your community and allowing me to serve at your table. I’m truly honored.
