Thrive with Proactive Aging

Category: Health & Wellness

Author: Lucretia Chapman, Director of Wellness

Across the world, people are living longer than ever before. However, according to the World Health Organization, “evidence suggests the proportion of life in good health has remained broadly constant, implying that the additional years are in poor health.” Taking a proactive approach to aging can help us live full, energetic, and healthy lives no matter how many years we have lived.

As the Director of Wellness at The Wildwood Senior Living, I emphasize proactive aging through implementing preventive measures mentally, physically, socially, and financially.

Managing stress and anxiety involves being adaptable and embracing change, along with maintaining a sense of humor and optimism. Stress and anxiety, if left unchecked, can exacerbate health issues as one ages, leading to increased risks and medication needs, as well as accelerating biological aging.

Various factors, including cost, convenience, lack of education, and inadequate self-care time, can deter individuals from maintaining preventive care. However, one of the greatest benefits of anti-aging treatments is the improvement in self-confidence, as looking good often translates to feeling good.

To encourage proactive thinking, we offer encouragement, lead by example, provide education on the aging process and preventive measures, and offer continuous support.

It is never too late to invest in your health. Taking control of our well-being can be the difference between surviving and thriving, the difference between extra years of truly living and extra years in decline. Make your years count. Approach aging proactively and use those extra years to get another degree, take up a new hobby, break a record, or explore opportunities you never thought you would get to experience.
