As spring arrives, our team turns its attention to one of the most visible parts of our community: landscaping. Beautiful grounds do not happen by chance. They come from thoughtful planning, seasonal preparation, and steady attention to detail.
After winter, I take a proactive approach to refreshing our outdoor spaces. My goal is to keep them visually appealing, safe, and enjoyable for residents. As the Plant Operations Director at The Wildwood Senior Living, I focus on the steps that help our community look its best each spring.

For the spring refresh, my team evaluates areas that need attention. We also coordinate with our landscaper to reflect each season throughout the property.
We remove old flowers and dead foliage, then inspect those areas weekly. This helps us maintain a fresh, well-kept appearance.
A recent seasonal project focused on the curb appeal around the monument sign. We completed this work in early spring. The project included replacing tired flowers that had winter damage.
We use a bid form that outlines the expected scope of work and how often each task should happen. This helps create accountability. It also ensures we only pay for completed work.
For example, if the landscaper skips a mowing, we remove that service from the billing.
One common spring startup issue is the ongoing growth of cattails in the front ditch. Rather than paying each year to cut them down, we are addressing their removal directly. This should create a longer-term solution and reduce recurring costs.
Next season, I plan to focus on filling bare spots in the greenery. I also want to remove dead trees and replace them with plantings that add more color to the landscape.
It is easy to see the finished product, but real success comes from teamwork. Coordination, accountability, and pride help bring each project together. These efforts ensure The Wildwood Senior Living continues to meet the standards residents expect while setting the tone for the months ahead.
