There are several myths surrounding memory care, the specialized attention for individuals with memory impairments, such as Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. It’s important to debunk these myths to promote a better understanding of memory care by providing accurate information to help families find the right level of care at the right time for their loved ones.
Living in Memory Care Neighborhoods does not take away the independence of those living with dementia. We encourage all residents to have independence with all activities of daily living. Our staff is well educated in helping our residents make choices and aid them as needed, but with most residents we see a gain in independence when moving into our Neighborhood.
Our Neighborhoods is fun, intergenerational, bright, and welcoming to all. Each resident will have engagement based on their likes, personal background, career choices, and life events. We encourage residents to keep hobbies they enjoy, and encourage home making tasks, as well as gardening.
Memory Care is for anyone who is living with dementia needing a safe inviting Neighborhood. Age does not define qualification. Every diagnosis and disease process are unique to the individual living with it. We often see residents sore and blossom from the accommodations of the Memory Care Neighborhood like ours. We see residents join in community engagement, giving them social and interpersonal relationships with others who are living with similar diagnoses.
