As Resident Services Director at The Wildwood Senior Living, I’ve seen how a strong sense of community transforms senior living from a place to stay into a place to truly thrive. Building connections among residents, team members, and the surrounding neighborhood isn’t just a nice-to-have — it’s essential for well-being, joy, and purpose.
Creating community starts with understanding what makes each resident feel valued and included. It means designing experiences that spark conversation, laughter, and shared memories. Whether it’s a small group event, a holiday celebration, an Act of Service, or a themed gathering, these moments strengthen relationships and help residents feel like they belong.
From my perspective, every interaction is a chance to weave the fabric of community. When residents feel connected, they enjoy their days more fully and experience the emotional and social benefits that come from genuine human connection.
To me, community in a senior living setting means belonging to something greater than yourself. It’s being part of a place where each moment matters and where shared experiences help create a true sense of home.

Building connections among residents is vital because these relationships ease loneliness, spark joy, and create a sense of family. When people feel connected, their days gain meaning and purpose.
I encourage residents to engage with one another by offering a variety of events that promote fun and interaction. Whether it’s a game, a social gathering, or a themed celebration, there is always something for everyone. These shared moments help residents find their place and form friendships that enrich daily life.
I also connect our community with the surrounding town through partnerships with local schools, clubs, and businesses. Shared events, volunteer days, and educational programs keep residents active, engaged, and rooted in the larger community.
Some of my favorite events are our music programs, including choir and Music with Mary, along with our lively beachball games. The laughter and camaraderie in these moments create a strong sense of belonging throughout Wildwood.
To help new residents feel welcome, I greet them personally with a warm gift and an introduction to life at Wildwood. Our community ambassadors offer guidance, share stories, and help newcomers feel supported from day one. These first connections often grow into lasting friendships that make Wildwood feel like home.
At the heart of our community, connections are everything. Every conversation, shared laugh, and meaningful interaction enriches the lives of our residents. As Resident Services Director at The Wildwood Senior Living, I’ve seen how intentional efforts to foster these relationships transform daily life and create moments that residents and families will treasure.
By prioritizing relationships, engagement, and belonging, we’re not just planning events — we’re building a vibrant, supportive community where everyone can thrive. Ultimately, the connections we nurture make all the difference.
